Adding rooflights to your interior can create the perfect home setting. Whilst acting as a portal to the outside world, they also allow natural light to radiate throughout your house – ultimately bringing the outdoors inside.

These rooflights can really add a unique element of style, transform your home, and bring it to the forefront of modern day architecture and design.

So, if you’re thinking about adding skylights to your property, how do you know which option is right for you?
To find out, take a look over this short EOS guide we’ve put together, which looks at the different design styles and their features.

Fixed Rooflights

These static units are ideal for visually increasing the perception of space and light within any room of your home. They’re also great for creating a contemporary feel and enhancing your property’s value by exposing the surrounding views.

This particular design is:

  • Stylish
  • Double glazed
  • Energy efficient
  • Secure
  • Low profile and sleek

Although this skylight is fixed and can’t be opened to allow air flow into your home, they’re a sensible choice for rooms that contain windows – as sufficient air circulation can still be achieved.

Alternatively, it might be the case that you would prefer a design which is fixed due to aesthetic reasons. In either instance, take a look our price list for fixed rooflights.

All of our skylights can save you money on your monthly bills too and this particular design has a U value as low as 0.97 W/m2K. This in turn means that you won’t experience any unnecessary heat loss from the unit.

Available stock sizes include:

  • 800mm x 800mm
  • 1000mm x 1000mm
  • 1000mm x 1500mm
  • 1000mm x 2000mm
  • 600mm x 2400mm
  • 1500mm x 1500mm
  • 1000mm x 2800mm

So whether your rooflight is being installed in your kitchen, hallway or bedroom, or it’s adding a unique element to a recent extension, fixed skylights are a great place to start.our range of stock rooflight sizes

Opening Rooflights

The major distinction between fixed and opening designs is the option to open and close the skylight to allow air circulation around your house.

If you want to allow natural light and air in, this design style is going to be more tailored towards your needs.
These designs are:

  • Contemporary
  • Durable
  • Eco-friendly
  • Low profile
  • Perfect for additional air flow

The units open electronically (up to 300mm) via the use of a switch, and a maximum of two rooflights can be operated together at the same time.

It’s even possible to incorporate temperature and rain sensors as additional extras so the unit can automatically close from the opened position if rain starts falling.

Stock sizes available include:

  • 1000mm x 1000mm
  • 1000mm x 1500mm
  • 1000mm x 2000mm

If your home gets stuffy during the summer months and you want to bring in more air, whilst also improving the vibe of individual rooms, opening rooflights will be your best option.

Eco Rooflights

If you want a fixed rooflight that’s going to save you more on your energy bills throughout the year, then eco skylights will be your preferred choice.

These units are more energy efficient compared to the fixed, open and walkOn variations, as they are injected with Krypton Gas and contain triple glazing.

With the lowest U Value out of the whole product range (0.65 W/m2K), the centre pane value is just 0.6 W/m2K, meaning you can save energy and let natural light to flood into your home.

Whilst consuming less energy, these units will also help you to reduce your carbon emissions and protect the environment too.

Allowing sunlight to radiate through your home also has positive health benefits, as exposure to the Sun can increase productivity levels and improve your general well-being. As a result, this decreases your dependence on artificial lighting.

Stock sizes include:

  • 800mm x 800mm
  • 1000mm x 1000mm
  • 1000mm x 1500mm
  • 1000mm x 2000mm

WalkOn Rooflightswalk on rooflights

These units are designed to carry the weight of people walking on top of the surface of the glass.

WalkOn skylights are ideal for both internal and external usage. For example, you could add one of these to a roof garden, or in your hallway on the second floor of your home. In both instances you would be able to walk on top of the unit as it’s incredibly robust and durable.

The designs are crafted from 50mm double glazed glass with a strengthened outer and inner pane, allowing you to walk on them safely and securely. The pane will also be flush when fitted professionally so that there aren’t any trip hazards.

Adding one of these rooflights internally means that natural light can pass through to the lower level of your home and your property will look contemporary and unique.

These luxurious and durable skylights are available in sizes:

  • 800mm x 800mm
  • 1000mm x 1000mm
  • 1000mm x 1500mm
  • 1000mm x 2000mm

Circular Rooflights

Finally, if you want to break away from tradition and add a more unique rooflight to your property, why not consider the circular variation?

Built for flat roofs, these windows are the perfect portal to the sky and come in a range of sizes – from 900mm (diameter) to 1350mm.

Similar to the eco-friendly style, these designs are also energy efficient with a U value of 0.97 W/m² K for the unit and 1.1 W/m² K for the glass.

We met EOS at the Homebuild Show in Birmingham as we wanted to see the rooflights before we bought them for our extension. We met with Elliot who answered all of our questions and helped out with our plans, as one of the sizes needed amending. The rooflights look beautiful in our kitchen. I would highly recommend EOS to anyone, especially if you this is your first build. Elliot couldn't of been more helpful with answering our queries.

The EOS rooflight we have installed is fantastic, the light within the room now is beautiful, the rooflight itself is a modern, slick design, it has transformed the space!

The finish is very good and the rooflight looks lovely. However, my builder has advised to be prepared for it to be a bit fiddly to fit. Now it is up, it looks great and is definitely how I had hoped it would look. Well worth the purchase.

The people we dealt with on the phone were both polite and very helpful with our order, dealing with the whole process very efficently. The rooflights were delivered to site and our customers were very pleased with them once installed and the effect of such extra light into the extension. We would recommend EOS Rooflights as did visit other manufacturers prior to ordering them but found them to be a superior product overall.

I looked at quite a few of the competitors roof windows and none compared to the quality of EOS Rooflights. In situ, they look fantastic. I wanted to construct my own insulated up stands and the sales team at EOS provided plenty of quick technical info to assist. I also need to delay my order and EOS kindly agreed to store a large roof window for a couple of weeks until I had space on the job site. If you are planning to construct your own insulated up stands, beware of the amount of time it will take you or your carpenter and factor this cost against buying the up stands from EOS (you will need an onsite table saw, unless you have a workshop and adequate space for a glue up). Make sure you have a plan on how you are going to get the roof window to its final location prior to purchase-one of mine was 2.8m long and weighed circa 250kg-I had a relatively easy route to the installation point , but I doubt this will always be the case.

Very easy transaction, great product and delivery service was fantastic. Only constructive feedback I can give is to better highlight the weight of the product and that can/will cause issues with delivery and installation. Luckily we had 6 builders on site who between them managed to move the £140kg roof light but what that meant is that we had to pay extra to re-enforce the roof with different beams
