An actuator, or motor is responsible for lifting a roof light into the open position and can be controlled via a switch. In our units, the actuator is built into the kerb to maintain the contemporary design.

Decibel is a measurement of sound pressure level. The decibel measurement indicates how effective the external sound is insulated by. The lower the decibel reading, the more insulation provided and the less sound coming in, or escaping.

CE marking is a certification that a product is in compliance with EU legislation. All of our products are CE marked, giving you the confidence that our roof lights are approved for sale.

This is the Danish Accreditation and Metrology Fund, a company that handles the accreditation of certification and inspection in Denmark.

The Danish Standard is Denmark’s national standardization body. Our rooflights have been fully DS certified again emphasising the quality of our products.

Most commonly found on single storey extensions, flat roofs are generally cheaper to construct than a tiled alternative. Our rooflights are designed for installation on flat or low-pitched roofs.

This is the rubber seal that fills the space between two surfaces to avoid leakage. All of our roof lights include this feature as standard.

Insulation reduces heat loss by providing a barrier between areas of differing temperatures, i.e. the inside and outside of your home. By choosing an insulated rooflight and kerb you will let more light into your home, whilst still remaining energy efficient.

This offers increased protection to ordinary glass, with sound proofing properties too. It has an interlayer which holds the sheets together and greatly reduces the danger of small sharp fragments when obstructed.

Like Argon, Krypton is a type of noble gas which is injected into the panes to improve energy efficiency.

It is more effective than Argon, especially when used in triple glazed units with a narrow cavity. We use Krypton in our Eco rooflights to ensure an ultra energy efficient product with an exceptional U Value.

This is the banding on the glass which protects the upstand and rubbers against UV rays which can otherwise cause damage. All of our products come with silk screen banding as standard.

Sky lights and roof lights are the same. The term roof window is also occasionally used, but all of these terms are interchangeable.

This measures how effective your roof light is at maintaining heat. Those that are well insulated will be more thermally efficient. This is recorded as U Value – the lower this value is, the more efficient your frame is.

This type of glass breaks into small shards when it is smashed. It has a high resistance to breakage as it is crafted by heating glass above 600°C and then rapidly cooling the surfaces whilst maintaining the heat in the middle.

The transformer is an electric device that reduces mains power to low voltage required to operate our electric rooflights. We include a transformer as standard.

Roof lights for flat roofs are supported by an upstand or kerb. Current building regulations require a 150mm upstand which we supply with all our products. Our upstands are pre-insulated to ensure they satisfy and exceed regulations and are the perfect fit.

Thermal transmittance or efficiency is commonly known as U-Value, and is the measurement of the rate of heat loss. Recorded as W/m2K (watts per square metre, per degree Kelvin), the lower this value is, the better.

This is a test of how water penetrates materials, and is conducted by applying water spray at a particular measurement per minute to the outside of the roof light whilst steadily increasing the air pressure.
